Two men were put behind bard for stealing light bulbs from an Ohio township.
Last February, Washington county locals were left in the dark when nearly $40,000 worth of light bulbs were never delivered. As it turns out, the
light bulb sales were part of a scheme of the town's former maintenance supervisor Chuck Moody and the
bulbs were never intended to reach Ohio.
The Marietta Register reports that Sam Seckman sold the light bulbs to Moody under the guise of his company called Universal Products. Detective Scott Parks said he overheard Moody bragging about kickbacks from "Sam the light bulb guy" and immediately became suspicious.
Parks issued a search warrant and found more than $24,000 in cash in a safe in Seckman's home. After months of investigations, a release for Seckman's arrest was issued on February 1 and, earlier this week, Seckman was put behind bars for third degree felony.
Moody is also in custody in will soon have to defend himself in court for his association with the light bulb scheme.
Many locals are up in arms over their lost tax dollars that went toward lighting that never came. Others take a more light-hearted approach, with one commenter at Fox News mocking the potential jail talk Moody and Seckman will face: "'Wadda ya in for?' 'Stealing light bulbs!' Haha."
Still, the crime is no laughing matter. Light bulb theft seems to be a current trend, with West Lafayette Topix reporting that three people were recently arrested for stealing light bulbs in Indiana earlier this week.
