Lucy Lawless and other celebs promote the use of CFL and other eco-friendly bulbs.
She may have fought off sinful warlords as Xena, but, in real life, Lucy Lawless is more concerned with fighting energy inefficiency. According to the Mother Nature Network, the star is fast becoming a part of "Ecollywood" - the community of celebrities who promote eco-efficiency - because of her advocacy for
energy-saving light bulbs.
Lawless serves as an ambassador for New Zealand Greenpeace. She recently told the Mother Nature Network, "I believe there is a catastrophic change coming if we don't do something now." For her part, Lawless has switched her entire home to
CFL bulbs.
She also tries to promote the use of energy-efficient lights on the sets of all her productions. In addition to getting the cast and crew to
go green with
compact fluorescent light bulbs when possible, she also gives them a hard time for paper and Styrofoam cups used on set.
Luckily for Lawless, she can probably command a lot of green power at work as her current series is produced by her husband Rob Tapert. Tapert is accustomed to her eco-friendly practices as their home boasts green lighting, an organic garden and an extensive recycling system.
Lawless is not alone in the Ecollywood community for her devotion to energy-efficient lighting options. Matt Damon, Stanley Tucci, and others have been quoted saying they use eco-friendly light bulbs.
