Disney visitors can enjoy festive holiday light shows this season.
Even if Southern California won't feel the crisp cold air of winter, visitors of Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park will be transported to a Christmas wonderland thanks to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights.
The display is named for an Arkansas family who set up an elaborate collection of
holiday lights for their own home. As their display expanded it garnered more and more attention within their community - not all of it positive.
When neighbors threatened a lawsuit because the 3 million holiday lights were distracting drivers, the Osbornes decided their holiday spirit would be better shared in a public space for viewers.
Since the Disney debut of the holiday lights, the spectacle has become even more spectacular, growing to over 4 million bulbs.
Entire buildings are blanketed in sheets of colorful lights that are choreographed to favorite classic holiday tunes, giving the illusion that they are dancing. The show is a consistent crowd pleaser drawing over a million visitors each year.
The Disney display, which runs from November 4 to January 10, is one of countless seasonal light exhibits Americans can enjoy this holiday.
Other highly anticipated
Christmas light showcases include Chicago's Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, San Francisco's Union Street Fantasy of Lights, and - of course - the traditional tree lighting at Rockefeller center in NYC.
