The new Audi is the green car of 2010, complete with LED lights.
This year, Audi is proving that tree huggers can still be regular drivers. The auto industry leader has released a fuel-efficient, LED-enhanced car and now they are backing a Green Police campaign that will encourage Americans to
go green while they watch the Super Bowl.
Audi's A3 TDI was recently named the 2010 Green Car of the Year. While many cars use
energy-saving light bulbs for headlamps, the company was awarded for their model's unparalleled eco-efficiency offered to consumers in a top-of-the-line sports car.
Audi officials are thrilled about the distinction. Audi president Johan de Nysschen said, "It is of paramount importance for us to develop vehicles that achieve the very touchstones this award stands for - fuel efficiency and environmental impact."
The company is proving they care about eco-friendliness beyond the auto industry, as well. During Super Bowl Sunday, Audi is sponsoring a series of ads revolving around the humorous eco-task force, the Green Police (complete with a Switchfoot cover of Dream Police lyrically reworked as Green Police).
While the cops will offer commercial viewers some laughs, they also provide serious reminders about simple practices that can boost American conservation, from cutting down on the use of paper products to switching incandescent light bulbs to
CFL or
LED bulbs.
While the campaign will give consumers helpful tips, it seems many are already making more efficient choices - especially when it comes to lighting. According to LEDs magazine, the
LED lighting market is expected to reach $1 billion before 2011.
