The cast of the Jersey shore has unhealthy tanning practices.
Watching an episode of the MTV reality show Jersey Shore has been likened by some to watching Oompa Loompas run rampant on the beach. (Snooki, in particular, draws these comparisons.) The orange reality stars are setting a bad example for countless young viewers - and not just with their promiscuous rendezvous.
The Jersey Shore gang promotes fake tanning, which uses light
bulbs that are bad for the environment and puts skin through unnecessary trauma.
Even natural tans put people at risk of skin damage from sun exposure. But the men and women of the Garden State show hit up the tanning beds on a regular basis. Beanstockd News did a little research on which kinds of light beds the beach bums use to get their unnatural glows.
Reportedly, Snooki visits fluorescent
light bulb beds that emit mercury. Not only do these tanning beds fail to use
energy-saving light bulbs, but they also emit toxins into the environment.
Perhaps worse news for the reality stars themselves is that users of the beds risk letting mercury directly into their systems every time they step in.
Still, the kids won't give up the tans, which are now part of their trademark among fans. It seems the cast of Jersey Shore is more worried about making green than promoting viewers' efforts to
go green.
Soon, they may have no choice but to ease up on the orange glow. According to Business Week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and members of Congress are trying to ban UV light tanning beds to protect Americans from exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays.
