Texas Marriotts will switch to CFL bulbs.
Marriott Rewards just got greener. More than 40 Marriot hotels in Texas will reduce their electricity consumption according to the guidelines provided by TXU Energy - including switching to
compact fluorescentlight bulbs.
The provisions are based on TXU's recent energy audits at several of the franchises largest facilities in the state. If fully implemented, the recommendations would reduce the hotels' energy consumption by more than two million kilowatt-hours, saving them an estimated $250 thousand, per year.
Both TXU and Marriott are pleased with the energy saving plans in store for the hotel chain. "Our goal was to do things that make sense from an environmental and financial perspective," said Rob Bahl, regional vice president of engineering for Marriott. "TXU Energy helped identify the green steps we can take to achieve that goal."
TXU has also agreed to offer Marriott and other local businesses rebates as incentives to use more energy efficient light bulbs and other products. Tom Leverton, chief operating officer for TXU Energy says, "It's a win for the business and for the environment, too."
TXU is one of many energy providers that hopes to encourage clients to use
CFL lighting. Customers of Visayan Electic, Alliant Energy, Duke Energy Ohio, MidAmerican Energy, and countless others can take advantage of CFL bulb rebates when they pledge to
go green.
