This year's Rockefeller Center tree will be lit with LED bulbs.
This holiday season, the holiday light celebration at Rockefeller Center - the most anticipated lighting ceremony of the season - will borrow the glow of some of America's most beloved stars.
This year's tree will be strung in 30,000
LED bulbs. The change to the more energy-saving technology is expected to reduce the midtown displays electricity consumption from 3,510 to 1,297 kilowatt hours per day, but nothing will be lost in star power.
In light of NBC's recent Green Week as part of their continued commitment to energy conservation, it is fitting that the network's Al Roker and Jane Krakowski of 30 Rock will host the televised switch of the
LED lights.
Beyonce will kick off the ceremony with performances leading into the ceremonious lighting. Other slated guest celebs include The Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill, Tony Bennet, and Rosie O'Donnell.
Even NYC newsstands in Rockefeller Center will share in the star lit fun. The December issue of O Magazine - which hits newsstands in the week leading into the ceremony - will capitalize on this celeb Christmas tree light frenzy, featuring a cover with Ellen DeGeneres wearing a string of holiday lights.
The Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony takes place on December 3, and visitors can enjoy the holiday display through January 9, 2010.
