Motor City businesses asked to switch to energy efficient light bulbs.
Another utility is supporting the move to energy efficient lighting, helping businesses and consumers save money on their electricity bills and reducing demand on stressed power plants.
DTE Energy said it is offering its Detroit Edison business customers a free eight-pack of energy efficient
compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). The giveaway is part of the company's Your
Energy Savings initiative, designed to help customers save money by saving energy from lighting, appliances and heating.
"Replacing
incandescent light bulbs with Energy Star qualified compact fluorescent lights is an easy and effective way for businesses to reduce their energy bills," said Steve Kurmas, Detroit Edison president and chief operating officer.
Power companies across the country are encouraging customers to make the switch to CFLs, which use 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent
bulbs.
According to DTE, businesses can save as much as $44 over the 10,000 hour lifetime of just one
CFL. Multiply the savings by every
light fixture in a warehouse or at an office and it shows how much the savings can add up over time.
