Infrared halogen bulbs (IR) use a different technology to cause the filament to glow and emit light. Instead of running electrical current through a carbon filament, these light bulbs use reflected infrared energy aimed directly at the filament, causing it to heat up more, and give off more light. It doesn’t use as much energy to produce the same amount of light (up to 30% less), therefore the infrared light bulbs end up saving money on your energy bill. IR bulbs represent creative thinking, new technology, and high performance and are the Cadillac of halogen flood light bulbs.
Sylvania offers a nice selection of these, with Capsylite IR and TRU-AIM IR bulbs being most popular. They are also the only ones to offer IR technology in a low voltage bi-pin base bulb. Here’s a link to a refined list of Sylvania IR halogen bulbs.
