I admit it; I am one of the people who stand amazed at the characters, locations, and magic of the world of Harry Potter. It is an instant classic of American literature and beloved by millions of people worldwide. It is only natural for fans to want to walk through those places and do those magical things at a theme park, and Universal Orlando has managed to create such a place.
Visitors will be able to walk into Ollivander's wand shop and see the rows and rows of wand boxes on shelves that stretch from floor to ceiling. Any fan can appreciate how really neat that is! Now, imagine the same thing with bright, white fluorescent light bulbs shining above your head. Doesn't really seem like the kind of thing old Ollivander would have in his magic wand store, does it? Well, surely some party lights would be appropriate, right? No? Well, the lighting used all around the Wizarding World of Harry Potter needs to be carefully matched with the scene it's in.
What is the color of the light at Honeydukes? How bright is the lighting level in the Three Broomsticks? Is there only candlelight in the Gryffindor common room? Designers have answered these and thousands of other questions when they planned this wonderful experience.
Lighting in theme parks is important in creating the proper mood and feel of the land. It's way more important than most people think, but thankfully, designers these days have learned how to really use the right light bulbs to make magic time and time again.
