I recently came across the upside down Christmas tree for the first time. It struck me as wacky at first, but it is starting to grow on me. This unique type of pre-lit Christmas tree is becoming very popular.
Bev Hendrickson at Vickerman Company told me that it has been a hit for people who think outside the box. “It gives an entirely different look to Christmas and more importantly, it is a much better way to display ornaments, as the ornaments hang out of the tree for greater visibility, versus hanging into the tree. My biggest customers for this style tree are people who either want to boost their ornament sales, or who have great collections of ornaments and want a better way to show them. The tree itself screams non-traditional, but the idea behind it allows for a much more effective way to visualize ornaments.”
Hendrickson believes in the upside down tree. “It serves a great purpose, plus, for most of my stores, they do not have a lot of floor space and this tree does not take up much... It is also a much more dramatic display and drama sells!"
I asked Ms. Hendrickson if green, white, or flocked was the most popular. “Flocked is beautiful, but green still out-sells. The flocked and the white make your colors just pop, which is why I recommend them. However, traditionalists still rule and green sells the best. The flocked also intimidates some people because they feel they can only use it in the cold weather months. A lot of people use the green or white all year-round displaying everything from floral stems to spring or Easter products to Valentine’s products”.
So this year, step outside the box and turn your winter Holidays upside down!
