I really love watching them, don't you?  My grandma has a huge box full of old 8 mm films of me, my dad, my aunt, and dozens of other important people in my life.  I simply don't get to see them nearly enough.  Recently, Grandma's converted the old films over to a DVD format and that will really help preserve those treasures, but if you ask me, it's not at all the same as setting up the old Bell & Howell and watching like I did when I was a kid.

Watching these memories for me is more than visual, it's also what I smell, hear, and touch.  I want to hear the motor running and the film reeling past the projector bulb, and I want to "have-to" put the beginning of the film into the slot on the projector and queue it up.  I can even remember the smell of the heated machine and film, and all put together, it brings me back to 8 years old, sitting on Grandma's couch, watching movies.  (and eating her fresh baked cookies, but that's a whole different blog)
