We’ve added a lot of Fulham exit lights to our website recently, which got me thinking about these little-noticed signs. Typically, I am the one who notices them when I’m not supposed to; for instance, when I am riding on an adventure ride at a theme park. When the designers of those attractions draw up the plans in order to create a deep jungle or a space station, so much effort and expense is used to make the experience great. And in the middle of all that, there’s an exit sign—in the middle of the jungle!
Well, as dad used to say, "Brian, that rule was written in blood". He would say this to me when I would ask things like "Why can't we drive 90 miles per hour?" or "Why can't we build a new garage without getting permits and inspections?" Dad's preaching helps me understand now that Exit sign requirements are there because of past disasters and tragedies. Even though it ruins the believability of my theme park ride through the space station, I have to be glad they are there. Man, I hate it when I have to admit dad was right! ; )
