DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the United States and the largest private, non-profit university in the Midwest, has replaced the metal halide light bulbs in one of its parking garages with energy efficient LED light bulbs. The original light bulbs ran at 210 watts each, while the new LED replacements consume just 90 watts. Not only do the new LED light bulbs save energy, but they also significantly lower the frequency of lamp replacement.
Energy Efficient, Long Lasting LED Light Bulbs
While using 60% less energy is certainly a feat in its own, these LED light bulbs are also designed to be maintenance-free, preventing any need for replacements for an estimated six years. They are extremely durable and robust, meeting challenging environments like high-traffic outdoor areas head on without fail. The greatly reduced frequency with which LED light bulbs must be replaced shortens the payback period, which allows DePaul University to realize returns on their energy efficient investment faster than any other investment.
The light sockets of parking garages are the perfect place for energy efficient
LED light bulbs considering that the lights are on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. LED light bulbs consume less than half the energy of old metal halides, and are also durable and very robust, which allows them to easily handle the vibration of traffic. The parking garage in which these LED light bulbs are being installed will be illuminated uniformly with pleasing light for many years to come.
Everyone Can Benefit from LED Light Bulbs
I think LED light bulbs in parking garages is a great idea. I've frequented some parking garages in my time, and they always seem very dismal and dreary with the stark HID lighting available. LEDs can be configurable to provide myriad different colors, so the tone of any area lit by LEDs becomes customizable. Businesses, schools, and all other manner of commercial enterprise stand to benefit a lot from energy efficient light bulbs.
