Before the mid 1990s, when someone referred to an icicle light set, it was the GE string with about 20 3” plastic icicles on it. That all changed in the mid to late 1990s. That was when the concept of a miniature string with varying length drapes was introduced as the miniature icicle light string. Before that time, when miniature light bulb sets were used on rooftops, the result was often a poorly defined and hard to see line of lights. Miniature light string sets were an efficient replacement for the traditional C7 and C9 holiday lighting sets but they were not nearly as uniform or as visible. However, when the drape concept was introduced in the form of icicle lights, houses were suddenly transformed with brilliant cascades of lights.
The result of the introduction of the icicle light set was a run on holiday lighting that was unprecedented. Store shelves emptied in a day and the young internet realized a nationwide search for product. Supplies seem to vanish from all locations but one. Our website offered a variety of about four different styles of icicle lights and had thousands of available sets. After being mentioned in a Florida newspaper as one of the last locations in the country with remaining stock, phone calls accelerated and we were taking orders faster than we could ship them.
Ever since that year, we have remained as a primary source for the icicle light sets. We currently carry stock year round and have the greatest variety available anywhere! We carry both green and white cord sets with your choice of bulb colors:
- Amber
- Assorted (Multi Color)
- Blue
- Clear
- Frosted
- Green
- Pink
- Purple
- Red
- Red / White / Blue
- Teal
- Yellow
In 2008 we introduced several sets with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes):
- Twinkling Stars on White Cord
- Blue Bulbs (M5) on White Cord
- Green Bulbs (M5) on White Cord
- Red Bulbs (M5) on White Cord
eLightBulbs only sells UL listed holiday lighting product. Typically the icicle light sets allow for three strings to be connected end-to-end. Using a set with 9’ lighted length, starting in the center and going both directions, this would enable you to cover up to 54’ from one outlet. Our sets use fused strings which prevent problems that might arise from shorts or overloading.
We will always be the web site to come to for Icicle Lights. We work primarily with a direct importer from Minnesota. This ultimately provides you the customer with the greatest variety in the market at very competitive pricing. Since we stock holiday lighting year round, this allows access for special events, parties, weddings…as well as a great variety of lighting for the holiday season.
