Halco's research and development of light bulbs never ends, and you can see the results in their newest lighting solution; the ProLED line of 40,000 hour A-shape LED light bulbs (or solid state lighting). This recent entry into the competitive world of LED light bulbs and solid state lighting looks like a solid contender.
A-shape refers to the shape of the light bulb. The standard A-shape lamp is the most common light bulb design; almost all household incandescent light bulbs around 60 watts are A-shape. ProLED A-shape LED light bulbs employ an aesthetically pleasing A-shape capsule over the actual LEDs to provide great durability and safety by eliminating the risk of broken glass from dropped or bumped lamps. This security is important, as these lamps are rated to last 40,000 hours.
In addition to this rugged durability and long life, these high power lamps are dimmable down to 5% light output. New high-performance chips are engineered to allow such dimming, and the ProLED line utilizes these new chips to the fullest. Further new engineering includes special heat sinks which provide superior thermal management (the heat sinks prevent the light bulb from getting too hot and overheating). Halco's high power factor proprietary designed drivers control the LEDs to deliver optimal lighting with minimal energy usage.
As of 7/21/10, The ProLED line of solid state lighting is available in three sizes: A16 at 5 watts, A19 at 8 watts, and A22 at 13 watts. A19 is the most common A-shape size, so you can be sure A-shape LED light bulbs will easily retrofit any fixture currently housing an A-shape incandescent light bulb. To top it all off, Halco covers these 40,000 hour ProLED A-shape LED light bulbs with a 5-year warranty.
