eLightBulbs is the web's largest supplier of A15 light bulbs. Sure, not everyone goes around asking for an A15 bulb, and you may not have ever heard the term before. Chances are, though, you've asked for them yourself in a different way. A15 bulbs are used in ceiling fan lighting, for one thing. The size of the A15 bulb is smaller than a normal light bulb, though the shape is the same. The rough vibration that the moving parts of the mounted ceiling fan produce can cause normal bulbs to burn out early, but a specialized A15 bulb will allow longer life. This is nice, naturally, for those of us who don't enjoy climbing the ladder every month to replace yet another burned out light bulb! The soft white glow the A15 emits is perfect for bedrooms and family rooms, where ceiling fans are most prevelant.
Another application that has made the A15 bulb so popular is that their small physical size allows them to fit well in appliances. Most refrigerators will require a bulb like this, as normal bulbs are just a bit too big. It's one of our most frequently purchased items and it's little wonder why--appliances are something that all of us have an abundance of. Many ranges also prescribe an A15 bulb for lighting up your kitchen stove.
The third of the most popular uses of the A15 bulb is in garage door openers. It sure is nice to have high quality, warm light to guide you into your garage at night. A15 bulbs from Sylvania or Westinghouse are specially designed for this application. The filaments are made extra tough, so the bulbs don't burn out as quickly. The garage door opener is a rough place for a light bulb. There is a heavy vibration that is very familiar to any garage owner. As well, your garage door light bulb is turned off and on for short periods of time. This frequent on-off switching cycle can lead to a short life for standard bulbs. A15's are aslo compact, and they will fit into the space allowed by your garage door opener with ease.
Just because this bulb is often referred to as "appliance bulb" or "ceiling fan bulb", doesn't mean you can't use the A15 elsewhere. It has a standard screw in base and runs on normal line voltage so you can use them anywhere you use standard light bulbs. For getting light into tight places, there are few options better than an A15.
