Without a doubt, the 90 watt PAR38 halogen has been the most popular one ever
developed. Because it was one of the first, it quickly spread to replace a
lot of energy wasting incandescent floods like the 150PAR38 (non-halogen),
150R40 or 100R40. While it saves energy, it gives off more light and a
whiter light which pleased many retailers at the time. Retailers could not
get the light that they wanted, which was a crisper, clearer light while still
saving energy. At the beginning there were even some utility rebates which
reduced costs for people to go to the new technology. It was the latest innovation
but now that has spread to many other configurations as well.
One of the most popular lamps that have been out on the market for decades has
been the 150PAR38 lamps. They are an incandescent source used in floodlighting
situations. But
with the advent of federal energy legislation, that lamp became obsolete for
domestic distribution because of its poor energy efficiency. But people
still wanted the same amount of light that they got from that lamp, so Sylvania
developed the 90PAR38 halogen bulb which gives the same amount of light
for 60 watts less. Capsylite is Sylvania's trade name for their 90PAR38 halogen
light bulbs.
For those of you who need a reasonable light output from a PAR38 halogen, we
offer this 90 watt version to replace the old 150R40 reflector floods. Though many
PAR38 bulbs are similar
from different manufacturers, we do believe that this product is superior for
its beam patterns and light output. Along with these superior aspects, the
Sylvania product has a 3000 hour average rated life which is usually more that
you get with other manufacturers. As the original developer of halogen lighting technology, they excel in delivering a
quality product for either commercial use or for your home. And speaking
of your home, if you need more light for outside security lights then consider
this 90 watt or one of the higher wattages we also carry. There are
wattages all the way up to 250 watts which are extremely bright and aren't
usually used for homes as most fixtures are rated for that high of a wattage.
Like all halogen bulbs, the 90PAR38 halogen floods are filled
with a special gas that actually rebuilds the filament and provides longer life than normal incandescent bulbs. These halogen bulbs are
flood shaped with the heavy, thick glass that is common to many large
sized halogen bulbs. PAR stands for parabolic aluminized reflector and this one
is just shy of 5 inches in diameter. These types
of bulbs will provide you with a high light output, a more white-colored light
(a higher color temperature - approximately 3000K), and longer life than normal
R or BR reflectors. That is why the halogen are many times used in energy saving
lighting situations because they are more efficient in their light production.
The PAR38 is a good direct replacement for the incandescent R40 lamps that have
been used in outdoor lighting or track and recessed cans over the past decades.
In fact, the 90PAR38 halogen could replace up to a 150 watt incandescent
reflector flood in some types of lighting, delivering the same usable light into
a space.
