I purchased this product as a replacement for a very similar-looking switch for a living room floor lamp that was made in Italy and had lasted 26 years before the switch gave up its ghost. Your replacement arrived promptly - and was promptly replaced when I called to report that the switch emitted a very noisy humming sound in every slide position.
The replacement hums only slightly, still quite noticeably but bearable. However, we had to turn it off when the living room filled with the unmistakable smell of burning plastic or wiring. First we thought it was the furnace, then we suspected that our neighbour was burning his steaks on the BBQ, until we finally zeroed in on the switch. It was quite hot to the touch and smelled really evil. I turned it off for a couple of days, then placed a metal plate between it and the carpet before turning it on again.
Seems to be working now with the original slight hum, but we don't dare leaving it on while out of the room for fear it may cause a problem, say a fire, since I have since placed it back on the carpet.
You should check with the manufacturer re quality control or the design of the electronics, just to save yourselves from possible problems down the road. Would gladly pay more for a replacement that was pre-tested and guaranteed to last, even if not the 26 years of my original Italian version, of which yours is certainly a not a very reliable imitation.
