The Panasonic Company in the recent past had a small selection of fluorescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs. As a long-time lighting distributor, we used to stock several models and people really seemed to love them. Some of the most popular ones came in "normal" looking shapes, which was rare at the time. By normal, I am referring to bulbs that were shaped just like the incandescent ones that we were all used to. Most CFL light bulbs were small, straight or twist shaped tubes, whereas Panasonic had bulbs that looked and felt familiar. This was something you couldn't find just anywhere.
In the end, despite having some very successful products, they just weren't big enough to compete well with the larger and better known manufacturers and they stopped making general service light bulbs for the North American market. Panasonic offers a selection of replacement projector bulbs and there are some cutting edge LED products (EverLEDs) and CFL's being worked on and sold in Asian markets and they may possibly make their way over to the United States, Canada, and Europe in the future.
