The first thing to determine when getting new ceiling fixtures is to decide if you want a flush mount or semi-flush mount fixture. Semi-Flush models actually drop down from the ceiling and "hang" down several inches, while flush mount fixtures don't hang down at all. For high ceilings, you can choose a chandelier, a mini-pendant or pendant fixture, or an island style. For utility areas, such as basements or over a workbench, try the linear fluorescent fixtures.
